5/12 of #top12 #2025 Documenting Fishing Cat Conservation Fieldwork with Eastern Ghats Wildlife Society, India I got inspired, so I decided to select my Top 12 photos of 2025. Some of them I selected because I liked the photo, and others because of the experience of taking them, but for all of them it is a way to remember some of the places I have visited and, mostly, the people I have met along the way. I like to travel with my camera, and lately I have started documenting the people behind conservation work in addition to photographing wild cats. This time, I packed my camera bag and went to Andhra Pradesh, a part of India I had never been to. My goal was to document the Eastern Ghats Wildlife Society (EGWS) and, at the same time, explore a new part of India. EGWS is a science-driven conservation society with several ongoing projects: King Cobra Conservation, Human–Wildlife Conflict Mitigation, Community Education & Awareness, and the one closest to my heart—Small Wild Cat Conservation. I had the wonderful opportunity to follow along with the great team of Murthy, Appanna, Madhu, Ramesh, and Omkar as they launched a new research area on the Fishing cat. The cat is understudied across its range in South and Southeast Asia—it's elusive, lives in wetlands that are difficult to access, and conservation research remains underfunded. I had an amazing time wading knee-deep in mud, setting up camera traps, and sitting in a boat searching for any sign of a fishing cat, or squelching after partly webbed pugmarks in the swamp while photographing.
